On 7th Feb 2024 Ofcom announced that BT has finally taken the decision to retire its PSTN by January 2027 and this means other providers like us that use BT’s network must follow the same timescale. Moreover rest of the other companies with their own networks such as Virgin Media follow a similar timescale.
Without PSTN it simply means old broadband (DSL,ADSL,LLU & FTTC) which runs through a PSTN landline will stop working after Jan 2027 and needs to be upgraded. Go Talk Digital is on a mission to upgrade UK businesses still using older Broadband to SoGEA or Full Fibre without any hassle or interruptions and most importantly without putting a dent into your pocket.
Working will be a breeze with concreate reliability, with Full Fibre you'll be able to stream 8k TV or ultra HD on multiple devices all at the same time without buffering or interruptions. Increased reliability will give peace of mind to vulnerable and elderly people back at home too who need to be able to make emergency calls. Cheaper and faster delivery of public health care, education and other services will benefit communities and societies as a whole. And it’s not just great broadband…With Full Fibre broadband, you’ll also get cutting edge voice technology that will mean that rather than your phone calls using the traditional telephone network, it will use the internet to connect calls, just like we’re used to with other Voice Over IP (or VoIP) services such as Skype, Microsoft Teams and FaceTime. You’ll get a digital phone line as standard when you upgrade to Ultrafast Full Fibre.
We would not need to take over your existing Broadband instead we would simply install a new upgraded Broadband connection on your desired location with your desired speed.
If your Broadband runs through your existing telephone number (i.e. using ADSL/LLU/FTTC platform) you can only use it until the PSTN switch off takes place in Jan 2027, which means your existing Broadband will stop working after the said date. Which also means you would be left out without a business phone, as to use VoIP phones having an internet is essential. We recommend you to upgrade it ASAP and should not wait to avoid poor services or no until then.
If you are still using the old Broadband your old router is not likely to work with us in our new platform, but it’s nothing to worry you would get a free router from us on signup depending on the deal you choose.
Depending upon your installation location and the deal you chose we can offer up to 1000MBPS download speed.
There would be no cancellation fees if you decide to opt out after the agreed minimum term runs out with us, you would just need to inform us a month prior to doing so and you also would need to return the equipment which came free of cost at the point of signup, however if you decide to cancel the contract before the agreed minimum term, there would be an early termination fee of £299 for any Broadband services with us.
Simply call or email us at least 48hours prior to the exact appointment date and time slot to re-scheduled the appointment.
IThere would be a missed appointment charge applicable of £99+VAT for each time you miss a scheduled appointment.
In such scenario you should already have a tracking number sent to you via text/email to track the same, if not simply call or email us to get the tracking number to track your parcel.
We generally deliver your parcel in 1 working day.
it’s nothing to worry, Our Support team works 24/7 to attend faults, so simply call or email us to report the same immediately.
In such a scenario if you also use Cloud Voice/VoIP services it would not work either as it runs through internet, So simply call or email us immediately, our Support Team works 24/7 in case of a fault, we would most likely resolve it immediately, in an unlikely event depending on the nature of the fault where an Openreach engineer visit is required it may take a day or more to resolve depending upon the availability of the Openreach engineers. In Such an event we would also give you an alternative option to use your Cloud Voice/VoIP services to make sure you do not miss any call, until the issue is completely resolved.
Simply call or email us and our support team will attend your query right away.
Simply call or email us, we do the rest for you.
On 7th Feb 2024 Ofcom announced that BT has finally taken the decision to retire its PSTN by January 2027 (previously the same was scheduled for December 2024). This means other providers like us that use BT’s network must follow the same timescale. Moreover rest of the other companies with their own networks such as Virgin Media follow a similar timescale. It means you need to upgrade if you wish to continue using your business landline along with your business numbers you use.
Voice over IP (VoIP) is also known as IP telephony, broadband telephony, or internet telephony—but it means the same thing: your voice is transmitted through the internet. The voice signal is converted into a digital signal and it then travels over the internet and reaches the destination.
Feature | VoIP | PSTN/ISDN Landline |
---|---|---|
Connection Type | Uses your internet connection to transmit data. Voice is converted into a digital signal. | Uses dedicated PSTN line for voice transmission. The voice data travels in the form of electrical signals. |
Switching | Uses packet switching which doesn’t require a dedicated line. | Uses circuit switching which requires a dedicated line for transmission. |
Bandwidth | Uses bandwidth as per requirement. VoIP networks don't reserve any bandwidth in advance and can work with as low as 10kbps. | PSTN requires up to 64kbps and all the bandwidth is reserved in advance. |
Upgrading | Upgrading a VoIP phone system is rather easy. You need to increase bandwidth and update the software. No additional hardware required except telephone sets. | Upgrading a PSTN telephone system is complex. You need dedicated lines and you have to add new hardware which makes upgrading a pain. |
Maintenance Cost | VoIP doesn't require a lot of maintenance. But if you do, it won't cost you a lot of money since you mostly deal with software. | If you use a PBX for your business, maintenance cost will be really high. In case of normal PSTN connection, you'll need minimal maintenance. |
Add-ons | Most VoIP phone networks come pre-loaded with all the add-ons and features such as voicemail, call conferencing, call recording, auto attendant, virtual faxing, line monitoring, and a lot more. | You get basic features such as call waiting, caller ID, and others but if you need more features like call recording, call attendant etc it will be very expensive. |
Biggest Advantage | Very cost-effective for businesses of all sizes whether it be setup cost, maintenance cost, monthly cost, or upgrade costs. | Call stability is one of the best features of a PSTN. You'd rarely experience a call drop or voice distortion. |
Biggest Drawback | Your VoIP phone system won’t work in case of a power outage or no internet connection. | PSTN is expensive for businesses. You have to spend a lot of money on maintenance, upgrades, and hardware as your business grows. |
Softphones/ App | It supports soft phones which allow your employees to make and receive phone calls on the go and without a physical phone. | Soft phones are not available. |
Overall Efficiency | VoIP is very efficient in terms of data transmission as well as cost. | Inefficient in terms of data transmission and cost. |
Security | VoIP security depends on your internet connection. | Very secure since you use dedicated lines. |
Phone Set | You can use a softphone, an SIP phone or your landline phone with an ATA. The SIP phones for businesses are available at different prices. | Telephone sets are inexpensive. |
Integration | Your VoIP phone network can integrate with any software or a third-party tool such as CRM, email marketing software, etc. Inter-connectivity isn’t a problem. | PSTN doesn’t support integrations. |
